Blue Fine Pottery Plate. Paterna-Manises Region Mid 14th-15th Century From Lerma A2.1
Only glazed in the centre, with anthromorphic decoration in cobalt blue on a white background: bust of a female head in profile and schematic plant motifs. During the middle of the 14th century, the Muslims mudejars in Valencia developed an innovative technique for the application of glazes which allowed the start of mass production of high quality china for everyday use.
This piece belongs to an early production, showing influence of the green and manganese china developed in the same workshops some decades before.
