Blue Fine Pottery Plate. Catalan Production, "Obra Blava". 2º Half of 17th/Beginning of the 18th Century

Plate with slanted rim decorated in cobalt blue and white. The decoration is composed of a central image of a head in profile, bordered by plant motifs, which start in the centre and form spirals across the surface.

It is a formal and decorative version of the Catalan technique obra blava from the mid 17th century, influenced by Italian techniques from Savona. The decoration covers the entire surface of the plate and tries to convey depth and perspective through the use of different tones of blue.
