Apollo Citharoedus. End of the 1st BC. Century
Sculpted in Carrara marble, the God appears sitting on a rocky promontory, with a naked torso and thighs covered by a short mantle. With his left harm he held a zither, which has not been conserved, while he holds a plectrum in his right hand.
This divine protector of the scenic arts is also closely related to Augustus's religious and political interests, and became his protector, especially after the victory at Actium in 31 B.C.
