SUMMER COURSE 2025: CULTURAL HERITAGE AND CLASSICAL HERITAGE.

  • 29/04/2025 - 16/07/2025

Cultural heritage, and especially that related to the classical world, has become a dynamic element of our society in recent decades, although the dissemination and accessibility of its knowledge constitute a complex and dynamic process in constant evolution. Added to this is a special interest in our classical heritage, with wine and olive oil being two typical products of the Mediterranean diet and culture since ancient times, highly valued today. In this course, we will discover their uses and value in the ancient world, as well as fishing, salting, and hunting.

Cartagena has an exceptional heritage whose restoration work continues. In this course, we will explore the new features of both the Theater Portico and the Amphitheater with the help of their researchers, delving into other aspects such as an analysis of the past and present of other Hispanic theaters and the impetus for the construction of these buildings during the reign of Augustus, where figures from the city's elite, or patrons of Carthago Nova such as Iuba II, may have participated. The emperor's political and cultural circle and his image of power will be other sessions addressed.

We'll close the final day with research projects on the Cartagena Amphitheater, and gain insight into how the games were held in these grand performance venues.
