COURSE: CULTURAL LEGACY OF ILLUSTRATION: BROADCAST OF ANTIQUITY TO INTELLECTUAL RENEWAL

The Museum of the Roman Theater in collaboration with the Summer Courses UPCT 2017 has organized a course on the cultural legacy of the Enlightenment: the spread of antiquity intellectual renewal, to be held from 17 to 19 July in Assembly hall of the Museum of the Roman Theater.
In this course we want to address the cultural heritage of a historical period that left an important mark on our city, with the arrival of the Bourbons Cartagena experienced one of the largest urban transformations in its history, not in vain this year is celebrating the year of the illustration, is why we wanted to approach this cultural legacy from several perspectives. Since the spread of classical antiquity, driven by the young King of Naples, Charles of Bourbon, and later King of Spain, Carlos III. To this king it is not only to the discovery of Pompeii and Herculaneum, but also the dissemination of findings, and thus the influence on the art of his time.
In this period the discovery of the Temple of Isis in Pompeii, which was the first Egyptian shrine that scholars could contemplate, and soon became one of the centers of attraction for travelers on the Grand Tour takes place . The urban transformation of the city and its legacy, the influence of new ideas in the Church of the time and its relationship with the Court, but also in popular music and literary folklore of time will also be analyzed. This is undoubtedly a period of intellectual renewal that prompted scientific knowledge, an issue that also be undertaken in the course sessions.
